Dark Chocolate Cherry Walnut Cookies

Preheat oven to 350° F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

With an electric mixer, cream the butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the vanilla and egg, mixing well.

In separate bowl, sift together the flour and baking soda. Spoon the flour mixture gradually into the creamed sugar mixture. Stir in the cherries, chocolate chips and walnuts.

Drop by heaping spoonful (about 2 tablespoons) onto prepared baking sheets, 2 inches apart. Bake one sheet at a time 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly golden brown on top and edges are set. Cool on the sheet for about 5 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in airtight container for up to 2 weeks

The great thing about this recipe is that it is versatile. You can change the dark chocolate chips to white chocolate, the walnuts to macadamia nuts and the cherries to cranberries.

  • 1/2 cup Hiland Dairy Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup dried cherries, chopped
  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup walnuts, chopped
