Hiland Skim Extra, as well as Hiland’s regular skim products, have identical nutritional profiles as that of whole milk, but none of the fat. Hiland Skim Extra provides 8 grams of protein, 30% of the daily calcium requirement and vitamins A and D — the same as whole milk.
The natural and healthy additives in Skim Extra Milk are a blend of carrageenan, a fiber thickener found in ice cream, and potassium citrate which enhances the stability of the product throughout processing and during the life of the product. Calcium lactate, which is a milk derivative, provides added white color.
The end result is a fat free milk that looks and tastes more like 2% milk than skim milk.
